This past Saturday evening September 13th I was asked to photographed a birthday party. The party was a costumed celebration for Denise's 35th birthday in a clubhouse in Coconut Creek, Florida. Check out below some of my favorite shots of the night....
Speaking with high school students from Lauderdale Lakes about my work, the process of putting a show together and being an artist. My work is in the Dwelling Projects show "To Puerto Rico & Back" at Gallery Six in the Broward County Main Library in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Opening is Tuesday September 23rd from 5:30-7pm, show is up until October 16th.
Today I had the extreme honor, and pleasure of leading a workshop for PACE Center for Girls.
I led a workshop encompassing the ideas of Photomontage, as well as giving the students an art history lesson, and covering two Photomontage female artists, the originator of Photomontage -- Hannah Höch, and more contemporary female artist, Linder Sterling.
I then had the girls take portraits of each other and encompass their own ideas, by taking selection of clippings from provided magazines, paper, scissors and glue and construct their own photomontages.
The just few hours spent with these young ladies is something I will cherish, they are so bright, courteous, intelligent and have such great individuality and sense of self. I was beyond happy to be able to teach, converse, and laugh with these young ladies. I hope this experience was as enriching for these bright girls, as it was for me.
Thank you to the Girls' Club Foundation for asking me to lead a workshop, and for PACE Center for Girls of West Palm Beach for allowing me to share my knowledge with their students.
